Paid Positions

President

The President serves as the chair of the Board and is responsible for supervising the other directors in the execution of their duties. As outlined in the Society’s Bylaws, the President plays a crucial role in signing contracts, representing the newspaper, and providing overall leadership to ensure Over the Edge continues to serve the UNBC community with quality student journalism.

Vice President

The Vice President is the vice-chair of the Board and carries out the duties of the President when they are unable to act. The Vice President works closely with the President to coordinate Board activities, oversee operational matters, and ensure the newspaper’s sustainable growth and development within the UNBC community.

General Directors (3 positions)

General Directors serve on the Board to support the newspaper’s mission of providing the UNBC community with publications that are attentive to the needs of students and the community. Directors contribute to policy development, financial oversight, and strategic planning while fostering an environment for students to practice ethical, independent journalism.

Criteria and Process

  • Any active member of the Society (primarily UNBC students who pay the Society membership fee may be nominated for positions listed above.
  • Pending Bylaws Approval: Alumni who pay the Society membership fee ($11.93/month) are also eligible to run for Board positions. Their election will be upheld if the AGM approves the Bylaws change.
  • Nominations are completed by submitting the online nomination form by March 20, 2025, at 5 pm.
  • In the online form, nominees will need to provide the names and student IDs of three active Society members who support their nomination.
  • Candidacy will be verified by the current Board of Directors.
  • Eligible candidates will be notified and invited to a Candidates Meeting before the election.

What material should candidates submit?

  • Personal Statement for OTE website (200 words max). For instance, who you are, why you are the right person for the position, why people should vote for you, and what you hope to achieve if elected.
  • Personal Statement brief for the ballot and OTE social media (100 words max)
  • Personal photo
