The Northern British Columbia Graduate Student Society (NBCGSS) hosted an Honouring Indigenous Culture Gathering for graduate students, as well as undergraduate students, faculty and staff, in the Canfor Winter Garden.

NBCGSS Director of Indigenous Students’ Affairs Alana LaMalice noted that the gathering earlier this month offered a space for inclusivity and learning more about Indigenous culture, enabling attendees an opportunity “to take time to observe and feel invited.” LaMalice, a Master of Social Work student, organized the event with fellow graduate student Cheri Brown (Master of Arts in First Nations Studies).

The @nbcgss special event gave participants a chance to make their own dreamcatcher with Crystal Behn, @tworiversgallery Indigenous Programmer, who personally harvested all the willow branches used for the activity. Attendees were also able to learn more about Indigenous knowledge and traditions through trivia games with prizes.
