Get Involved

Over the Edge (OTE) is UNBC’s free press newspaper, publishing monthly from September to April to connect students, faculty, and staff across our northern BC campus. As a student-run publication since 1994 (and independent since 2004), we’re the forum where UNBC’s unique student voices and experiences come to life.

Contribute Your Voice

We welcome all students to contribute, no experience necessary! Whether you’re a seasoned writer or just starting out, if you’re passionate about sharing ideas about UNBC, Prince George, and local topics, we want to hear from you. We’re currently updating our payment structure and writing guidelines, so check the Get Involved section for the latest details on compensation and submission policies.

Simply click the submission link in this section to upload your article. Need inspiration? Browse our previous articles on the website or reach out to us directly, it’s not that complicated!

Your work could reach 1,000 copies distributed across UNBC campuses and 22,000 copies throughout Prince George, thanks to our historic collaboration with the Prince George Citizen.

What We’re Looking For

We value diverse perspectives that reflect our colourful northern student experience. However, please note that our editorial committee reserves the right to decline low-quality or controversial content, particularly global political articles unrelated to Prince George, UNBC, or the North. These restrictions apply to the print version (per PG Citizen guidelines), though such articles might still be published on our website.

Why Write for OTE?

Working with OTE helps you develop written and verbal communication skills, computer and technical production abilities, and connections with determined, interesting students. You’ll create memorable portfolio pieces while chronicling the growth of our university and campus culture. As a member of the Canadian University Press (CUP), you’ll also be connected to student journalists nationwide through news sharing and annual conferences.
