Goodsir Nature Park offers a model for what environmental education can look like when it’s rooted in place and passion. Educational signs along the trails explain the ecological roles of native species and engage visitors of all backgrounds, from schoolchildren to scientists.
Admission by Donation: A Gift to the Community
One of the most remarkable aspects of Goodsir Nature Park is that it operates on a donation basis. There are no entry fees, no commercial gimmicks. Jim built the park as a gift to the community, and he continues to maintain it with the help of volunteers and supporters.
This model reflects a philosophy of accessibility and generosity. It ensures that everyone—regardless of income—can experience the beauty and learning the park offers. For SGU, this aligns perfectly with our values. We believe that environmental education should be inclusive, and that nature belongs to everyone.
Madi Tokarchuk has already begun exploring ways to support the park through student initiatives, volunteer programs, and awareness campaigns. Her leadership is a beacon, and her vision is clear: to ensure that Goodsir Nature Park remains a place of learning, beauty, and community for generations to come.
For those of us who visited with SGU, the experience was a reminder of what’s possible when passion meets purpose. If you haven’t yet visited Goodsir Nature Park, make the trip. Bring your curiosity and your camera, and gratitude to live in harmony with nature.
“I am in awe of Jim Good’s work and have been left speechless by Goodsir Nature Park. I’m in my third year of Environmental and Sustainability Studies and I aspire to accomplish a fraction of what Jim has in his life. Not only is he an inspiring environmentalist, but he is also a role model for being a good person. Jim’s heart is as big as his park and his philosophy is to be kind to everyone, no matter their background. His kindness is something we could all learn from. Jim’s dedication to his work is incredible because not only did he handwrite all his park signs and plant ID cards, but he also handwrote a 300-page autobiography. His dream is to have his book published and to have his life’s work turned into a motion picture. If anyone deserves to have all their dreams come true in life, it is Jim, and I truly hope that he can add author and actor/director to his list of many accomplishments. I will definitely be returning to Goodsir Nature Park on a regular basis and encourage everyone to go at least once. You will not find anything like Goodsir Nature Park anywhere else! It is a must-see!” – Madi Tokarchuk
