About Over The Edge Newspaper Society:
The Over The Edge Newspaper Society provides the UNBC community and its affiliates with newspapers and other publications that are attentive to the needs of students and the community. We foster an environment for students to practice ethical, independent journalism while maintaining a student-focused perspective. Our newspaper serves multiple UNBC campuses including Quesnel, Peace River, and Terrace with a monthly distribution of 25,000 print copies.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and organized Media Coordinator to support our student newspaper operations. This position will focus on digitizing and archiving historical newspaper content, implementing digital content management systems, supporting editorial operations, and creating multimedia content for both print and digital platforms.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the digitization and archival preservation of historical student newspaper content
- Develop and implement digital content management systems to improve accessibility
- Support the Editor-in-Chief with daily operations, content planning, and team coordination
- Monitor and maintain digital platforms, including website updates and social media presence
- Create multimedia content including photos, videos, and graphics
- Design promotional materials for newspaper initiatives and special events
- Streamline editorial workflows and content management processes
- Coordinate with different departments to ensure smooth operations
- Organize and maintain digital archives and databases of newspaper content
- Provide technical support and training to staff members

Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education (completed or in progress)
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experience with digital content management and multimedia creation preferred
- Interest in journalism, media, and/or communications
- Computer literacy and familiarity with digital platforms
Support and Mentorship:
- Daily supervision with formal feedback
- Weekly one-on-one mentoring sessions
- Job-specific training and career-related guidance
- Support for skills development
Eligibility Requirements:
This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible, candidates must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee status
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Be able to complete the full 8-week term
